Mentoring
is your preferred “next step” after Starting Point!
70%
of new believers drift away from their decision for Christ within 3
months of becoming a new Christian. Our solution to keep believers from leaving the faith is MENTORING!!!
Why Should I be Mentored?
Anyone who excels at something has one
thing in common: they have a mentor (or coach)—someone who takes
personal ownership in their development. Everyone
needs a coach. A coach’s role is to help you develop specific skills (habits)
that will allow you to excel.
HOW
DOES MENTORING WORK?
After
you finish Starting Point, you will be matched up with a mentor (if you
agree to be), who will meet with you, regularly, 1 hour a week for
approximately 12 weeks. During that time, your mentor will walk you
through 10 lessons in our “First Steps” book. This book is designed to help you
develop a spiritual foundation and spiritual disciplines that will serve you
the rest of your life. When you finish the 10 lessons, your mentor will
personally help you get connected into the life of our church and keep track
with you for the rest of the year.
“My
direction (not intention) determines my destination” – Andy Stanley
I PETER 2:2 – like newborn
babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your
salvation.
Growing
“old” in our faith is natural, but Jesus instructs us to grow “up” in our
faith, which is unnatural. Mentoring
provides the scaffling for growing “up” in your faith, as it helps you go in
the right direction.
POWER
OF ONE
1000 (weekend
worship environment)
100 (special
serving environment)
10 (Life group
environment)
1-to-1
(Mentoring environment)
To excel in anything, the right environment is extremely
important. It’s important to understand what each of Northeast’s
environments are designed for. Weekend
worship is a weekly environment designed for 1000+ people to gather for a worship
experience (ie. singing, communion, offering, and preaching). If you
never engage past weekend worship, you will become frustrated here,
relationally.
Special
serving environments (ie. Second Saturday, Gift wrapping at the Summit, etc.)
are designed for 100+ people to go and be the hands and feet of Jesus in
practical ways throughout our community. If you don’t engage past here,
you will not develop meaningful relationships.
Life
group environment is intended for approximately 10 people to regularly meet and
learn to do life together. This environment is where you can know and be
known. Relationships are highly valued here! If you don’t engage
past here, you will not benefit from having 1 person focus their energy solely
on helping YOU!
Mentoring
environment is laser-focused on you. It’s designed for 1 person who is
committed to taking you under their wing as your spiritual coach for 1 year in
order to help you get started in the right direction and even to excel in
getting connected both with God and into the life of our church. A mentor
will help customize you in learning to engage in living the abundant life.
